In many ways, the future of high-performing buildings is driven by evolving codes and standards. Join us for an engaging half-day seminar, where we’ll explore key aspects of high-performance building enclosures that meet the latest energy standards both in Chicago and across the country.

This seminar will provide valuable insights into evolving energy standards and strategies to prepare for future changes. Participants will learn best practices for reducing thermal bridging and optimizing building envelope designs. We’ll also identify innovative techniques for designing sustainable and durable facades, including materials and methods to improve the longevity and environmental performance of building exteriors. Don’t miss this opportunity to stay at the forefront of building design and envelope performance!

Learning Objectives:

  • Create high-performance enclosures that meet the latest energy standards in Chicago.
  • Identify the new IECC 2024 changes for building envelope requirements.
  • Prepare for the upcoming stretch codes.
  • Recognize how the energy code updates will influence performance compliance and energy modeling.
  • Identify best practices for minimizing thermal bridging and review resources, which can help optimize designs.
  • Discover calculation procedures for assessing overall building envelope thermal performance that includes thermal bridging.
  • Explore materials and methods that enhance the longevity and environmental performance of building exteriors.

Presenter

Edlyn Garcia La Torre head shot with black shirt, glasses and red lipstick

Edlyn Garcia La Torre has over 18 years of experience and brings a multidisciplinary approach to building science with a bioclimatic lens due to an architecture background, a master's in bioclimatic design, and a specialty in façade analytics. Her projects vary from materials and products research to building design of projects in a variety of sizes, scope, types and complexity. She is an expert in analytics such as thermal modeling, daylighting, shading optimization, dynamic condensation risk assessment, environmental comfort, and envelope code compliance, among others. Edlyn has also taught subjects in architecture school about sustainability, façade performance and innovation, and building energy. Edlyn joined Morrison Hershfield now Stantec in 2019 as a Façade Consultant.

Presenter

Tamo Dembeck-Kerekes

Tamo specializes in whole-building energy simulation and energy analysis to strategically identify areas for potential savings and guide design decisions. He has experience with a wide variety of building and project types including code compliance, monitoring and verification, energy audits, utility incentive programs, and archetype energy studies.
